What is a Dexter Cow?
Dexter's originally come from the southern Region of Ireland. They are one of a few heritage breed of cows left. Dexter's are considered the smallest breed of cattle in the world. Pound for pound, no bovine can match the diversity of Dexter cattle, one of the smallest cattle breeds. Standing just 36 to 44 inches at the shoulder, Dexter's are the perfect old-fashioned, family cow. Gentle, versatile and economical, Dexter's efficiently turn pasture into rich milk and lean meat, if you're so inclined. In recent years, interest in Dexter cattle has surged worldwide.

What is so Great about Dexter's?
Dexter cattle are an ancient Irish breed, the smallest of the British breeds. They originated as a hardy breed of small mountain cattle run on small family holdings. At the turn of the 20th century, Dexter's became the show cattle of the English gentry. Dexter's adjust well to small spaces and are productive.
As I learned recently, Dexter's are one of the last remaining Tri-Purpose breeds. A tri-purpose breed are excellent for calving, beef, milk and even has been used for drafting. The Dexter breed is an old heritage breed. A heritage breed is one that has not be genetically altered/modified for any purpose.
Dexter Beef- Where's the Beef?
We all remember that old saying from years ago. Where's the beef? Right here!!! As a cattle producer for the last 10 years I have strictly dealt with Angus for meat production and swore by it. Our Dexter beef fare surpasses that of the Angus breed and would like to encourage you to give it a try. Our Dexter beef is tender, aged, and sweeter to the taste and to top it off we use no hormones or growth supplements for fast production. After our experience with Dexter's, we are only producing Dexter beef !!! In our opinion, the Dexter beef is superior to its rival.
Dexter Milk-
Dexter cows produce about 1 1/2 to 2 gallons a day of about 4 percent butterfat milk - over a full 305-day lactation-when fed for production. (Some exceptional cows can put out up to 5 gallons per day at the height of their lactation.) The fat globules in Dexter milk are very small, which makes the milk more easily digested. The cream easily separates and makes outstanding butter and ice cream.
Dexter's Versatility-
Dexter's are great around supervised children and can create a sense of accomplishment with younger kids and even adults. Dexter's can also be used for drafting on the farm or pulling a wagon.

When purchasing your Dexter look at her personality and temperament. We guarantee our cows to come from great genetic lines and easy to work with. we are a small farm and do not mass produce our cows. We would rather have a few great cows than a lot of good cows.
